Description

The Lost Distillery Dalaruan is a part of the Lost Distillery Company’s range, which revives the memory of closed distilleries from Scotland’s rich whisky heritage. Dalaruan Distillery was one of the prominent Campbeltown distilleries, established in 1825 and closed in 1925. Located in the once-thriving whisky-producing town of Campbeltown, Dalaruan was known for producing a classic Campbeltown-style whisky, characterized by its maritime influence and unique combination of smoky, fruity, and salty notes.

Tasting Notes:

Nose:

  • Maritime and briny aromas, with a hint of sea salt and coastal air.
  • Subtle smokiness, reminiscent of a soft peat fire, mixed with earthy tones.
  • Fruity elements, such as green apple, pear, and dried fruits (apricots, sultanas), balanced by a soft maltiness.
  • A touch of honey and vanilla sweetness, with an underlying note of damp oak and leather.

Palate:

  • Medium to full-bodied with a complex, layered profile.
  • Initial briny, salty notes lead into soft peat smoke, adding a smoky warmth without overwhelming the palate.
  • Fruity sweetness from orchard fruits (apple, pear) and dried fruits, intertwined with malty richness and caramel.
  • Earthy, oily texture with hints of spice (black pepper, nutmeg) and a faint mineral quality that speaks to its coastal origins.

Finish:

  • Long and warming, with lingering notes of soft smoke, dried fruit, and a hint of sea salt.
  • A touch of peppery spice and oak tannins give it a dry, balanced finish.
  • The maritime and briny notes fade gently, leaving a smoky, slightly sweet aftertaste.
